About
He was educated while living in a submarine.
When he was in the US Navy, Attorney Balter went through his own divorce and felt confused, angry, and that the deck was stacked against him. It was at this point he decided he needed to do something to make the process easier on people and give them the best chance for success and happiness when their divorce or custody matter was over. With this in mind, he started attending Quinnipiac University School of Law concentrating on Family Law while still on active duty.
This is your life and not a case file. Josh makes sure you know all the facts of your case so that you can make informed decisions. His meticulous attention to detail and reputation as a top-notch court room litigator along with his ability to think outside the box ensure that his clients are never forced to make deals which are not in their best interests or not what they want. He appeared in front of the CT Supreme Court and won a precedent setting case.
He grew up in New York City and was in the US Navy for twenty years, mainly serving on Submarines and with the US Marines and is a veteran of multiple combat tours. He has traveled the world extensively, including living in Japan for three years. His life experiences taught him a respect and understanding of people of various cultures. Josh was a medical specialist in the Navy and completed the most demanding enlisted medical program – Submarine Independent Duty Corpsman (similar to a physician assistant) with honors. He served as the sole health care provider on the USS San Juan (a nuclear-powered submarine) and various other duty stations as a medical provider including with 1/25 Marines in Iraq. He completed his career by serving as the Senior Enlisted Leader for three Navy Health Clinics. He is the recipient of numerous military awards, decorations, and retired as a Chief Petty Officer with multiple combat designations.
Josh earned his bachelor’s degree while in the Navy, literally taking classes hundreds of feet below the surface of the ocean and in the middle of Fallujah while deployed. When people ask how he has accomplished all that he has done his reply is: “I simply did it, I never gave myself excuses not to.” He brings this same temperament to being your lawyer.
Josh is deeply involved in community service and spending as much time with his family, especially his grandchildren, as possible.
Prior to joining Happy Even After Family Law, he founded and managed Balter Law from 2015-2024.
Josh takes on complex litigation and mediation issues and limits his case load to ensure his clients get the best of him.
